I am an older woman, who in the final third of her life wants to do the hill climbing, kayaking and rock climbing of her youth. Unfortunately the middle third of my life was working long hours behind a desk combined with terrible eating habits. And I became unfit and overweight. Danny met me and introduced me to Personal Training. His explanation was clear. He understood my goals and matched the exercises. Back in New Zealand I had a trainer and really appreciated her. So when Danny offered a free session I accepted. It had been worth it! Danny really did listen well. We box, I row and we do innumerable exercises for the core and abs. Danny has introduced me to a range of strength building exercises, that really help me with building the particular muscle sets for both rock climbing and kayaking. And it has worked. I am rock climbing more strongly and my recent week end sea kayaking in Scotland was such a contrast to my first one! I have really grown much fitter and I have lost weight with the program he has given me. Having been a member of a gym for some years,I had become a little disillusioned with the lack of results after my three weekly workouts. Added to this, I had had a minor car accident and was worried about injuring myself weight lifting weights so I kept to the same safe programme. Although I was working up a sweat, my efforts did not lead to weight loss in the desired areas – hips, bum, thighs. If I did lose weight, it went from my upper body and face and I would look gaunt and unhealthy. I approached Gavin as he was recommended by a local gym member and I started a six week exercise programme during the summer holidays. Gavin motivates, supports and guides you through exercise, diet and lifestyle, making you really think about what you need to do to make a difference. I started drinking green tea, looking at portion size when it came to meals and began to specifically really work the areas where i wanted to see improvement. In six weeks I went down a dress size, increased my stamina and my core strength and gained the motivation to keep going. I am in my forties and proud to say colleagues and friends keep commenting on my shapely arms and svelte bodyline. I can comfortably wear trousers and dresses that I have not been able to get into for four years. What can you say about the man who leaves me half dead each time we meet!! I have lost over 2 stone in weight and many inches!
I agreed a programme of training with Gavin some 12 months ago and have seen some considerable success as a result. We have concentrated on both fitness & diet (which is the even harder part for me) with Gavin’s advice on both, of which is absolutely invaluable. The Training sessions are hard and varied and somehow he has a knack of pushing me to a limit I didn’t think I could reach, it’s difficult to say I enjoy them (although I do afterwards!!) But I do get a great sense of achievement, which if anyone has been to the gym knows is not unusual the difference in using a personal trainer is it motivates you more to stick to the appointment and get on with it I reckon without Gavin’s attendance I would have done only 50% of the Training I have.

It also helps that he is very personable with a very positive outlook to life, and flexible to appointments (which is critical with my business life) I recommend him wholeheartedly!!

Great fun, motivational and ultimately professional: 3 ways to describe my sessions with Gavin.

My decision to work with a personal trainer was quite specific, as I wanted to increase my fitness for a personal challenge of 100 km trek in the Annapurna region of Nepal. Gavin went out of his way to think of places where we could train that included some great hills, as well as including the more normal fitness training at the track.

He was always encouraging, without shouting like a boot camp sergeant major, and made the sessions enjoyable ¦(even for someone like me who is naturally lazy when it comes to exercise!!) Thanks Gavin.

And, by the way, Nepal was FANTASTIC. I enjoyed it even more because, thanks to you, I was able to trek without feeling exhausted!!

Two years ago, at the ripe old age of forty-five, and having abstained from any regular exercise whatsoever since the age of sixteen, I made a decision to improve my fitness level which was worryingly low. My name is Stephen and I am 31 years old. I have always been overweight and I never really thought it bothered me until recently. I work as a mental health nurse in Worcestershire. On Christmas Day 2004 while working on an acute psychiatric admissions ward a patient pulled me over and I hurt my back. During 2005 my back continued to play up and Christmas 2005 I was involved in a car accident which exacerbated my back problem. All through 2006 I experienced chronic back pain which affected my mobility which ultimately led me to putting on huge amounts of weight. When I tried to exercise I would experience another relapse and this would result in me putting more weight on; I ended up in a vicious circle every time I exercised I would aggravate my back which led to me putting on more weight. I had to change my job as I could not work on the ward anymore and unfortunately some of my new work colleagues made comments about my weight.

This continued all through 2006 and 2007. In the summer of 2007 my GP sent me for an MRI scan. This showed that I had a prolapsed disc and resulted in me being referred to the Neurosurgeons at my local hospital. When my appointment came through in April 2008 the consultant informed me that I had two prolapsed discs and that it was highly likely that I would have to have surgery on my back. He arranged for me to return in June following another scan and then discuss the options available to me. The thought of having surgery scared me so I looked at what alternatives were available for me. That’s when I came across Gavin. After speaking to Gavin and the services that he provided we arranged to meet up and discuss a personal programme that would look at my diet, posture, exercises that would help me lose weight but also strengthen my back and importantly change my lifestyle. We started our sessions on May 26th 2008.

Gavin was honest and said that it would be hard work but made me realise that I was actually investing in my health and in the long term the benefits would be priceless. Initially we arranged ten sessions which Gavin gave me advice on nutrition and exercise programmes and we trained together on a weekly basis. In those ten weeks I lost about 10kg. When I returned to the neurosurgeon I had the pleasure in telling him how much weight I had lost and that I had not experienced any back pain. Due to the progress I made with Gavin’s professional advice the neurosurgeon said he would put me hold for the foreseeable future.

Those ten weeks changed my life, not only in regards to my back but in other aspects of my life. I feel healthier and I look healthier. Losing weight has made me feel more confident about myself and this has been reinforced by friends, family and work colleagues telling me how much better I looked. To fit into more fashionable clothes is amazing something I was never able to do before. Not to be known as the fat one but as Stephen is brilliant.

Gavin is professional, honest and provides a structured programme that utilises safe exercise techniques and sensible eating patterns. He is really passionate about what he does. Gavin also provides psychological support and with the type of work I do I know how valuable that is. I felt angry that I was overweight during my 20’s and I did not want to be overweight in my 30’s and with Gavin’s help it looks that I am reaching my ideal weight.
After my ten sessions had finished I decided to continue with Gavin as his exercises, his advice and his encouragement had paid off and for the first time in my life I was losing weight on a consistent basis. I have now lost 58kg and I am continuing to lose weight on a weekly basis, my lifestyle is healthier by far and what I learned about having a personal trainer is that it wasn’t torturous, hard yes but I actually enjoyed our work together. “I can honestly say Gavin has saved my life, I owe him big time!”

I first met Gavin in February 2009, for an induction training session, after my previous personal trainer had moved on. Our first, and all subsequent training sessions, have been held at the Abbey Athletics Stadium, Redditch. Which provides a professional setting for his business (although i do know that he does home training sessions with some clients).

From the initial meeting, i have found Gavin to be highly professional, totally reliable, enthusiastic and very knowledgeable in all aspects of fitness, diet and nutrition. He has a natural friendly manner and good inter personal skills which supplement his obvious specialism in this field.
Gavin has an upbeat character and inspires me to succeed! However, he is never frightened to express his disappointment if training or diet falls below the standards previously agreed or expected. I find this a refreshing aspect of his character.

Without doubt, since training with Gavin twice per week (supplemented by my other sporting and fitness activities) my 46 year old body has never looked so good. The variety and thought given to the training sessions that he delivers keeps my interest and motivates me to meet the next challenge.

After years of largely ineffective self directed exercise, I decided to see if working out with a personal trainer was worth the investment. In the past I have spent so much money on diet books, DVD’s and gym memberships in the hope that I would lose weight and become fit and healthy. I have always been a little chubby as a child and as I grew older so did my waistline! The diet books, DVD’s and gym memberships did help me lose weight but only for a short period of time. I found I ended up putting more weight on than I lost in the first place. Due to being overweight I lacked confidence and this was something I wanted to change.

I made a decision to hire a personal trainer after i seemed to heading for another year (2009) of failure regarding my weight. What can I add that hasn’t already been said about him? He is a thorough professional and makes training enjoyable, adding many different techniques. We have been training for 5 months now and the results have been amazing! I have lost over 3 stone in weight now and I haven’t put even 1 pound back on. What can I say, training with Gavin has changed my life! It all started in June 2009 when my best friends little boy wanted to play a game of snakes and ladders on the floor and I could not bend down to play it with him. His mum had to come in and play with him instead but you could see that he wanted “Uncle Pete” to play!

That day I came home and thought about how upset he was and then started thinking about my life! I could not even walk a few hundred yards without having to stop for a breath and bending down to pick something up was just out of the question!!!! So I googled personal trainer and up came GTPT.co.uk, I clicked on the link and filled out the enquiry form. The following day I had a call from Gavin, we arranged a meeting at the Redditch Athletics Stadium and we went through what I wanted and what he could offer me to help, also on the first session we evaluated my diet (which was shocking!) and Gavin then said what I would have to do for him to be my trainer. The main thing was I had to be committed to loosing the weight, stopping the drinking, the takeaways everything about the bad lifestyle that for the past 18 or so years I had enjoyed far too much!

So we sat down and we agreed on the Low GI Diet, lots of vegetables, fish, chicken basically everything I had avoided, no more takeaways, pizza, pack in the beer (which we compromised on a few pints per week) and starting some minor exercise and walking.
So everyday I started going for a walk, just started off short distance and slow, half mile everyday and found myself really enjoying it, over the next few weeks training once or twice per week with Gavin, we tried medicine ball work, some boxing, lots of walking around Redditch Stadium, then everyday myself committed to at least 30 mins walk on top, soon the walking began to get longer and one day I actually walked for 5 miles non stop. Also the weight started to fall off rapidly!

After about 2 months, we felt it was time to start in the gym, so I joined the gym where he is based from in Alcester and we started there. Basics at first, treadmill walking on a slight incline, just to get warmed up, then some leg presses (being 30 stone I have strong legs anyway) then some free weights, pushing me harder and harder. I’ve been doing 30 – 40 mins cardio (treadmill and cross trainer) before Gavin arrived then it was a full on hour long weights session, which the following day I knew about big time!

All in all Gavin has changed my life! Yes he’s strict, you have to follow his rules on diet and exercise, but to be honest if you don’t your wasting your time and his! (and your money!)

I would recommend him to anyone who wanted to start training, he is honestly worth his weight in gold! I am now looking forward to the New Year and continue my training!
