Walk before you can run!

  • If you’re new to exercise or just starting a new routine or training variation then start off with small manageable goals, This way you will be able to build up to the bigger prize you have your eye on while creating a fantastic foundation!

  • Little but often! - Off the back of the last one, start off with small but frequent sessions, 5 sessions of 20 minutes a week was what I started with and built it up from there.

  • Enjoy what you’re doing! - Take pride in what you’re doing make sure it isn’t a chore, this way you’ll keep motivated and want to keep achieving; I combated this by giving myself rewards when I hit my targets (such as some music for my I-pod or a new top etc)

  • Mix it up! - Another way to keep your interest with losing weight is to find different ways to get your cardio in; I found 5v5 football and badminton where great to get me sweating!

  • Set your goals!- get a plan of what you want to achieve, set short medium and long term goals, this way you can get the sense of achievement and also have the bigger picture in mind of how you can hit your top goals! I found by doing this I found myself more motivated and focused when it came to my training I could see overtime where I was going with it and how I was going to get there.

  • Output exceed you’re in put! - Make sure that your diet reflects your training! It’s hard when you first start out but it’s really important to make sure your diet is the right diet for you and the goals you want to achieve, if you’re not sure what or how to do it then seek advice from a professional, I did and reaped the benefits!

  • Don’t neglect the weights! - A lot of people think cardio is the only way to shed the fat, but by incorporating weights into your routine you will not only build muscle that will help burn body fat but also help you tone up any loose skin from weight loss and help give you an even better body shape, from my weight loss I was left with a lot of excess skin but by increasing my muscle mass I filled in the areas of my body that had the excess skin and found fat burning a lot easier!

  • Don’t obsess with scales! - If you’re incorporating weights into your routine then you may stay at the same weight even though you are losing body fat, I find a much more accurate and motivational way to monitor weight loss is to use clothing, photographs and measurements, I found there was nothing more satisfying than pulling on a top that had been tight around the belly to find it was hanging off!

  • Don’t go it alone!-Don’t just rely on yourself seek advice about new training methods, diet tactics and lifestyle advice from a trainer or other resources, I believe you never stop learning, from the start of my training right up until present I have always looked for advice from other professionals, it’s great to pick up new ways to train!

  • Organisation! - Plan your training so that when you get in the gym you are straight to it and not milling around wondering what to do! I would ways plan what I was doing for a minimum week in advance, that way when I hit the gym I knew exactly what I was doing and could fully focus on it!

  • Self belief! - This is the single most important part to weigh loss is belief that you can do it, if your confident and you believe in yourself then that’s half the battle, once I had established my confidence there was no stopping me!
